Where can I get ammonium nitrate for school and is a licence or ID required to buy it?

Since it's viewed as a propellant, I think you have to check with your state laws and regulations if your using it as a propellant. The chemicals needed to make ammonium nitrate propellant are ammonium nitrate, magnesium powder, binder and curing agent. You can find all of these at some online stores. You want to get it for school? What do you want it for, really? Ammonium nitrate is the starting point for a great many compounds, including powerful detonators The truth is that the authorities would take a dim view of your proposed purchase. It's not the old days, when I was in school, and the only restrictions on chemical purchases were based on age (over 21 ) for chemicals that were really dangerous--------Sulfuric Acid, Metallic Sodium, Potassium Cyanide and like that-----------Sadly those days are gone beyond recall.

A farm supply store...I make tie dyes and have to buy it all the time.
