I suggest you eat and drink water. You are going to be getting a workout. The first time I was induced, I went into labor for 3 days! The second time, baby came in 6 hours. Either way, I was beat! I know you are excited, but you really need to rest up! Good luck! and Congrats!!!
Why the heck the thumbs down? When I was induced, I was in labor for three days. Obviously my body wasn't ready, no matter how much Pitocin there was. Couldn't I get a thumbs up just for enduring three days of labor???

I was induced and was told not to eat anything after midnight. I was to be at the hospital at six in the morning. Well they broke my water and it hurts girl, but it only hurts for a sec. Your docs may or may not do this. I was then started on an IV drip of oxytocin. This is to help your contraction start or get stronger and harder. The nurse asked me a series of question about what I wanted for pain management, did I have the things I needed for the baby, breast or bottle feeding, etc. I then had a catheter inserted. About noon I opted for an epidural. I never dilated or nothing due to my baby being sooooo big. I hope this helps a little and if you want more about my birth story the my yahoo IM is mtfjmy. Good Luck!

Don't eat after midnight the night before you plan on going hun. You don't want it coming up on you during delivery. Ya know?
When I had my second baby a few years back I was more than 2- 1/2 weeks overdue, they HAD to induce mine as well. First they will break your water. It's a quick and painless process as far as that's concerned. Then they'll break your water and possibly could give Pitocin (through your IV) to make you have contractions (usually stronger than usual ones FYI) to make the process move along at a good/normal rate, but it all depends on whether you start having contractions on your own I believe. I just know that they don't want the birthing process to take DAYS, otherwise you risk a dry birth. (If you're delivering vaginally....)
They also will most likely give you an enema to remove whatever is in your bowels so it doesn't end up on them or the birthing room floor. Delightful, huh?
Good luck and best wishes!

I'm against induction unless medically necessary. Think very carefully before going through with it (this is from personal experience - I was induced with my son and had many dangerous complications as a result).
Once at the hospital, you will get an IV and depending on the type of induction (there are different medications and rupturing your membranes that can "induce" you) you may receive meds through your IV or vaginally. You will be hooked up to monitors to keep an eye on your baby's well being. You will be given IV fluids and once in active labor you won't be able to eat anything. Be prepared for many hours of labor.
Mostly, though just think about the beautiful baby you will have in your arms at the end of it all. Good luck.

I was induce with both my kids. They will give you something called pitocin-this will make your contractions become more frequent and stronger. I asked for an epidural both times-It numbs you from the waist down, but you can still feel your contactions. I noticed it helped me to relax so labor was shorter. I was also able to enjoy the birth! It's not bad-the worst i s getting the epidural and having hold still while having a contaction! Good luck-piece of cake! I would have something really light like crackers-they may have you fast before though-don't want you throwing up or anything.

you know i wouls say dont eat right before going but a little befor that should be fine. i would take a bag with pjs comfy cloths for the baby along with a blanket for baby. tooth brush if you dont want to use the hospitals.this is just in case you have to stay over night or for a few days if you end up having a c section.also they say being induced makes you have harder contractions i was induced but i only have one kid so i can compare but my contractions were pretty hard good luck to you p.s. get some sleep befor you go because you wont get much their be sure to bring dipers and pads in case your hospital doesnt carie them

Usually they have things there for you, that are acceptable.Usually things like jello, juice, crackers, and ice cream. I personally would not eat food at home. Treat it like surgery. Many people throw up after they eat. Ask a nurse midwife. They are such great sources.
As far as being induced. If you go eat a big meal at McDonald's and then go for a long walk, you may start labor on your own. I had two girls in my labor class that had that happen.
Induction is usually done by breaking your water, and giving you Pitossin. Anyway, once they break your water, there is no turning back. I let them break mine, (because labor was slowing down), and it ended up being 33 hours, plus a C-section. Then, I talked to some other girls, (in LLL+ laleche league), and they told me I didn't have to induce. In fact, they both went over their due date by two weeks. The first one was in labor, they admitted her, and then labor stopped, and they wanted to break her water, and she said no. Then she went home, and came back when she was in labor again. It was several days later. Her baby was fine.
Once you get pitossin, (through an IV), labor pains will start to come after you have had enough of the pitossin. Then, labor pains start to come. The positive thing is that is speeds things along, (especially for the doctor). The negative thing is that is speeds things along for you, and you may end up with back to back contractions. That is what happened to me, and others I have talked to. Talk to a midwife and maybe they can tell you more.
As far as other preparations. Get sleep, rest, pamper yourself. You will not get to do that for awhile. Make sure you have packed all the things for yourself, and your baby, (including a car seat, clothes to go home in, camera, magazines, and phone numbers to call the ones you love). If you are planning on nursing, call LLL first, and get in touch with someone first. It is really helpful. The women there are so knowledgeable about so many things besides nursing, and you can bring your baby, and get together with other women. A great place to get support, and meet new friends.

I wouldn't eat for at least 8 hours before going...otherwise you could get sick from the medicine they give you...it wasn't so bad for me because you're expecting it and they can control the pain...when you go in they get you prepped which consists of blood tests and urine test...(the norm for pregnancy)...then the get your IV started and that's pretty much it...you just wait...if you go on for a long time in labor then they'll break your water usually (at least they did with me) I had high blood pressure and since my labor wasnt progressing they did a c-section...i don't wanna scare you but a lot of induced labors end up in c-sections...it might be something you want to discuss with your doctor.

I, like a previous poster, don't really "believe" in being induced unless medically necessary for the simple reason that if your body TRULY isn't really, it could lead to further complications inluding a c-section. I guess if you are really ok with the possibility of a section, go for it, but I, for one, am not into being sliced open simply because I wanted to be induced and get a pregnancy over with.
I hope your OBGYN did that whole Bishop Score thing to see how your body/cervix is before doing this OR you are over-due!
BUT...you never stated why you are doing it..so....who knows!
Best wishes! :)

Eat as close as you can to arrival time to the hospital. But don't eat anything greasy or heavy. I've been induced 3 times before. Depending on what they use to induce you, it should go pretty quick. Good luck and Congrats!!!
