You don't need to choose. It is like choosing between air or water.
You gotta have both.

Lennon-McCartney
Those guys were so close and they had more of a balance of great songs. They were versitile and wrote alot of time lasting, solid tunes.
Lennon-Strawberry Fields Forever, Come Together, Help!, A Day In The Life, And I Love Her, I Am The Walrus, Ticket To Ride, (solo) Imagine, (solo) Give Peace A Chance
McCartney-The Fool on the Hill, The Long and Winding Road, When I'm 64, With A Little Help From My Friends, Helter Skelter, Yesterday, Love Me Do.
Good question by the way.

Lennon/McCartney hands down!
Both John and Paul could (and Paul still does) out-write the Stones with both hands in their pockets. The Stones were great but John and Paul were geniuses.
They were both (though Paul particularly) able to produce consistently original melodies like no one could.
