Do this in baby-steps:
1) Smack him really, really hard. (preferably with something really, really hard)
2) If amnesia does not set in, then, go find some way into blackmailing him not to say anything.

Hide it so he won't find it.
If you make too much a deal because he did , then he will think
you have a lot to hide which will cause him to keep looking
act calm and hide it some were else.
Buy another one and write things in it about him, he will read it and leave yours alone.

Depending how old he is.... write something about catching his girlfriend cheating on him and you don't want to hurt him so you don't know how to tell him... or write about something bad that he has done that you know about that he doesn't know you know about and write that you are going to tell the authorities and get him in trouble...
or...
write a story in there that implies that you are going to do something terrible to him (or his pet) and then when he goes to your parents to get you in trouble get really upset about him reading it and say that it wasn't about him, it was just a story you were trying to write...
Have fun and get his goat real good! You will both laugh about it someday...

Confront him with how you feel, make him repeat what you said so that he knows how you feel, make him promise not to do it again...............
If he breaks his promise,
Start writing things in it that will repel him. He will quit because it is no longer fun.
Find a WAY better place to hide it and if he finds it, start burying things that are precious to him in your back yard.
Hope you have a big back yard

Write something that will get him into trouble. Maybe write in it that you know he is adopted and you don't know how to tell him! he he he .. will serve him right for looking!
