I am talking about things like badminton, golf, and ping pong. Sports? Recreation? What about others?

eating contests....how could that ever be considered a sport...at least thats what they called it when i was watching an episode on TV of these people who trian for a hotdog eating contest every year from all over the world so they can win and be the worlds best or whatever!

It's only a sport if it makes you sweat and if there's defense involved. By involving defense, I mean that you must be able to prevent your opponent(s) from scoring. Therefore, badminton and ping-pong (yes, I sweat playing ping-pong) are sports in my opinion. Golf, however, is not, because you can't prevent your opponent from scoring. I don't consider swimming or track a sport either, for the same reason, even though they're highly athletic. Just my opinion, though.

A sport would be the bigger category. The game would be the individual session of the sport.
