She is a mythological character. Depending on which story is told, she has different parents. Zeus and Leda are her parents in one version, and Helen is a daughter of Nemesis, the goddess who personified the disaster that awaited those who show hubris in another.

Also depensing on which story, Helen was either in love with or kidnapped by Paris, a Trojan prince. Menelaus, her husband and the Spartan King, called on 1000 ships and began the Trojan Wars.

She is the "face" in the song "IF" by Bread

If a picture paints a thousand words,
Then why can't i paint you?
The words will never show the you i've come to know.
IF A FACE CAN LAUNCH A THOUSAND SHIPS,
Then where am i to go?
There's no one home but you,
You're all that's left me too.
And when my love for life is running dry,
You come and pour yourself on me.

If a man could be two places at one time,
I'd be with you.
Tomorrow and today, beside you all the way.
If the world should stop revolving spinning slowly down to die,
I'd spend the end with you.
And when the world was through,
Then one by one the stars would all go out,
Then you and i would simply fly away

Though there is not definite indication that Helen was even a real person, if she did live it probably would have been during the bronze age in Mycenea. It has been esitmated that the Trojan wars occured somewhere between 1275-1180 BC, so Helen would have been born around then.

It's notable that, given what seem to be the usual customs of the time, Helen was probably not more than 14 when the war started due to her abduction/elopement (apparently 12 years old was a typical age to be married by, and she was old enough to already have a baby, Hermione, by the time she left.)

I don't think that there is a specific date as such, but here's an interesting fact about her birth.
She was conceived by Leda when she was in the form of a swan and she actually hatched out of an egg!
Cool huh?
Well, that's one version of the story, there are others. Her father was Zeus, and I'd hazard a guess and say that's why she was the most beautiful mortal around.

No one knows. Historians don't even know when that war took place exactly as there were several Trojan wars. Up until fairly recently, it was believed that it was all a myth and not a real place. But the characters involved are presumed to be mythological.
