It could also be that the items you have for sale are not what people are looking to buy. What kind of items are you selling? How old? How used? How damaged? etc.

What are you selling? Some items have a very low sell through rate. Clothing is a good example. Unless it is a unique clothing item or designer clothing it probably wont sell. The days when just about anything would sell easily on ebay are long gone. Be sure you have the best photo's possible, good descriptions, and realistic prices.

well, the winner is always ebay.. They are working on a great business model.. whether your item sells or not. they make Kaching $$$.
So I have always made sure , that what ever I intend to sell, I first check if similiar items have sold in the past day/week/month. (by searching in advanced--> completed ITEMS)
that will give u an idea if it is worth it to list the item. . also try to sell on craiglsit and google groups in your area. as it is free..

too high a starting price ?
too many other simular items?
and what the item is, and its description.
Also if you have not sold alot, some buyers won't buy from people with low rep scores
