When my kids are faced with a situation where they have to decide who is telling the truth, I tell them, "Look, listen, and figure out who has the most to gain by lying".

Colin Powell - who has made a deliberate and dignified point of remaining silent (and presumably loyal) and not voicing his opinions for some time now - is right, and so is everyone else who is accurately labeling the current situation...but these words are secondary to the real point: WHAT NOW?

Colin Powell, 90% of the rest of the world and most of this country believe it is a civil war. NBC is now calling the conflict in Iraq a civil war. Bush does not want to go down in history as causing not only another Viet-Nam(in the sense of being unwinnable), but also in being responsible for laying the groundwork for civil war by having no plan in place to replace the toppled regime.

What does it matter? bush broke it, mismanaged it and now wont call it for what it is because he might have to eat a little crow. People we are seriously looking at the end of the USA as we knew it( for people old enough to remember). We stuck our nose in a real crappy mess and now its bloody. Calling Colin Powell a traitor is a laugh. But just like other totalitarian governments I see that one of you fools put the republican party before the country. We needed the worlds help going in, didn't get it, we need the worlds help now(wont get it because the Fuhrer pissed them all off) and eventually we will ALL have to pay for this serious miscalculation by what appears to be quite literally a mad man(bush)

I'd trust Powell's opinion way before Bush's

Powell warned them not to go into Iraq for the very reasons we're seeing all the problems there-- its a no-win situation. Powell knew that and was ostracised. That's what this administration does, they kill any disagreement (groupthink all the way)

These guys are no better than the Iraqi military leader that said they would crush the americans and that there were no americans in bagdad. Put their head in the sand and say things are just fine-- hmmm sounds like Mad Magazine guy (what, me worry?)

The whole Middle East seems to me to be an example of a perpetual civil war despite the different areas and various countries which have occupied this entire region over the last few centuries.
Sunnis, Shiites, Kurds, Hezbollah, al Qaeda, the Revolutionary Guard, etc...etc.....etc........
These guys make the Hatfields and McCoys look like bosom buddies.

One's a former military officer, the other got an "honorable discharge" for doing nothing and encountering nothing during his time in the National Guard. One KNOWS war while the other knows nothing about it. Looking at it such as it is, I'd say Powell.

Colin Powell is a traitor to the Republican party and to America. Iraq is not yet in a civil war but if something is not done soon it will be!!

They're both 'right.' What makes you think either of them are 'left'?

Personally, I don't care what you call Iraq. The point is, it's chaotic and needs a change or course, if not a complete American exodus from the country.

What difference does it make what you call it.
It needs to be handled.
The Extremists have done a real good job in their PR campaign to convince people like you to oppose the war & let them win by terrorism what they can not win on the battlefield or the ballot box.
If you'd prefer to just leave and turn Iraq over to the extremists who have vowed to destroy America, they would follow us home in no time.
If you thought 9-11 was bad, you'd be in for a wakeup call.
