My wife & I are looking at buying a home from individuals we know, so I'd like info. on buying a home, an overview of the process & terms, especially regarding a situation where you're buying from a person (rather than a realtor).

There's lots of info on the web-congratulations for educating yourselves! Mortgages are very complicated these days too, so learn about those too. Try Yahoo Finance & MSN Money. Also search for buying real estate or mortgage information etc, realtors sites or mortgage brokers sites are fine for information-just don't sign up! If they require that, go to another site...also try "buying without a realtor", etc.

One more thing-be sure and compare houses sold in the neighborhood-it's a buyers market and my house that I just sold was appraised for $275,000 and sold for $235,000. Their house may not be worth what they think.

No. All will try to get you to pay them $9.95 month for their *lists*. Better bet is call a local realtor that specializes in these homes and get a list from them.
