Unfortunately newborns make their own schedule. You could try going out more during the day, taking him on walks, shopping more during daylight hours and taking him with you, etc. Basically, find things to do as much as possible during daylight hours. The outside air may help revive your little one, and perhaps he will be less prone to sleep as much at these times. Howver, as a newborn, he will sleep some during all times of the day, and they tend to sleep whenever they get tired (which is a lot). As he gets older his schedule will become more bearable. Good luck!

Newborns need their sleep... disrupting their cycles at this time is not a good idea. Besides, it really doesn't work out that if they stay up more during the day that they will sleep more at night (not at this stage of development). What you will get is an overtired, cranky baby who is still awake at night. I know this isn't what you want to hear as a sleep-deprived new mom, but believe me, when they hit around 6 months, you can start implementing a sleeping pattern. I know this sounds like a long way away, but it will come sooner than you think. You just have to have patience and work with the baby's schedule at this point.

He can have a binky even though hes nursing. He wont get confused. Especially if hes more than two weeks old. Also u cant expect to change his sleep schedule yet anyway what u can do is sleep when he sleeps and let him rest at night when u rest dont turn off the lights during the day when he sleeps this will confuse him. Also try swaddling him for many newborns this calms them down. Good Luck

With a newborn, you really have to follow what they need.
Bring him into bed with you so you can get more rest. Then you can just roll over and latch on to nurse if he wakes up. Keep nighttime feedings quiet and dimly lit so he'll begin to learn that it's time for sleep and not play.
And take a nap during the day while he is sleeping so that you'll be better rested. "Sleep when the baby sleeps!"
When you say he, "likes to sleep all day" I wonder if he is sleeping long stretches? If he is less than 2 months old, don't let him go more than 2-3 hours during the day without nursing. Wake him up and try to feed him.

Try making the room brighter and busier during the day with television or some Baby Einstein music in the room (not too loud). During the night make the room as dark as possible and add a soft nightlight. You may also want to try a bedtime routine such as a bath or a massage and reading a storybook before nighttime, bedtime. My baby woke up 2 to 3 times a night at the age of 1 - 3 months. She is a little over 3 1/2 months now and is starting to sleep most of the night.

Ok this is what is unfortunally called that he has his days and night mixed up. You will need to try to stimulate him during the day and show little action during the night. make his night feedings very matter the fact. Nurse him and change him and then pu thim back to bed. Dont turn a bunch of lights on if yo don;t need to. I bought a nightlight bulb for the lamp by my bed so it wasn't too bright and it didn't wake him up too much. during the day do just the opposite. Turn lights on make sure his naps are in rooms that are not really dark. dont tiptoe around when he is sleeping so he gets used to noice and can sleep wiht our with out it. Just remember this too will pass and you will get through it. Good luck and keep up the good work with nursing.

I have a newborn and I am nursing. At first my son was just like that, but I brought him this learning gym from toys r us that makes animal sounds and plays music. I sit him under it after I feed him, and he tries to hit the animals. Just try and wake him up during the day, by taking his clothes off, just make sure the house is warm.

Just how old is your son? They need all the sleep they can get. But I understand the need to sleep. Have you tried playing with him a little? A bath? Picking him up every little bit?

your newborn needs to sleep. its not a good idea to try and keep him awake. he is growing and you do a lot of growing in your sleep. he will eventually sleep through the night. try giving him a pacifier. it wont confuse him...babies arent that dumb.
