8 bits = 1 Byte
1024 Bytes = 1 KB
1024 KB = 1 MB
1024 MB = 1 GB

A Byte is the equivalent to the letter "a" in a plain text document.

Also people who say there is 1000 to a MB, GB or whatever are worng, as Computers use Binary for calculations (2*2*2*2...) and people use Decimal (10*10*10.....) So you can never have a nice round number like 1000 in Binary.
