Every time one of our civil liberties is taken by the government, we are hurt. As a nation, and as a free people. Our own govt is trampling on the fabric of the Constitution, and the core values that this country was founded upon.
People ask what rights I personally have lost. The right to counsel. The right to due process. The right to privacy. The right to assemble. Habeas corpus. Unreasonable searches. Warrantless wiretapping. The list of rights and civil liberties that have been trampled on by the Bush regime grows longer every year.
Every one of those rights stipped away was mine. Just because I never needed to invoke them didn't make them less mine. And just because you haven't needed them yet doesn't make them less yours.
We only have those rights we choose to defend. Only those rights we can defend. And if we do not defend them, we lose them. Not just for those who need them now -- but for all of us.

In honor of Pastor Martin Niemöller:
First they came for the 6th Amendment, but I hadn't been accused of a crime, so I didn't object to denial of counsel.
Then they came for the 4th Amendment, but I wasn't talking to anyone overseas, so they wouldn't be monitoring me.
Then they came for the rest of the 4th Amendment, but I only called my mother, so there was nothing suspicious in my phone records.
Then they came for the 1st Amendment, but I never associated with criminals, so I didn't worry about being convicted purely based on what other people might do.
Then they came for the 14th Amendment, but I never really understood the rules for Due Process (and wasn't allowed an attorney), so I didn't object.
Then they came for the rest of the 1st Amendment, but I never told anyone about what the government was doing, so again I remained silent.
Then they came for the 5th Amendment, ...... and I no longer had the right to remain silent.

Yea, I agree. yet how a lot of human beings could nevertheless be whining for that individual who seems harmless therefor produced then released and then walks right into a random place of universal public commerce and blows the completed city to airborne dirt and dust with a transportable nuke or something? The nuke section would desire to be a techniques-fetched yet explosives have become smaller and extra transportable so a construction may well be leveled with pen. it is the time for considered wherein the conflict of Liberty and risk-free practices is being waged. i'm truthfully satisfied i do no longer would desire to make those judgements, are not you? unlike those others who only opt to criticize and factor out short-comings, your questions are to help good?

We are at war with terrorists. When one is arrested it is a pretty good chance that they are one of the cowards we have been looking for. Some innocent people may be held by mistake, but most are real threats to ALL of America. I hate the thought of holding an innocent man, but an innocent man should cooperate.
When an innocent doesn't speak up or lies for a terrorist then he is no longer innocent.

Technically the conservatives are right, it is for the "terrorists" the problem is this adminstration defines anyone hostile to them as a terrorist.

Those "people" that you care so much about are called terrorists.
We still have all our rights, unless we are terrorists.
That is soooooo sweet of you to care about the freedoms of terrorists.
