Yes. All Optical Drives generally will have backward capability. A DVD drive will write to CD-R's and play CDs as well.
When whatever new format wins, the same will happen with those, except that they will also be able to write DVDs standard.

Sure thing, each time a new technology is invented the old is implemented in the new one.. DVD Burner can burn cds for sure, and a cd burner can read cds... that's obvious and u can find a dvd-rom reader that an burn cds...
And keep waiting for blue-ray burners that can burn blue-ray discs, r\w dvds and cds...

Yes. Haven't seen a single DVD burner (computer type!) yet, that doesn't also burn CDs.

Yes, I'm very sure on this one. This is because dvd recorders have blue lazers with short wavelengths that can encode smaller marks on the disk,
cd drives in computers or cd players have lazer with longer wavelengths that create the red lazers so they won't be able to read the dvd since the beam is to big.

not that i know of...i had to put two burners in mine..one is for CD and the other is a DVD...so i dont think you can
