The hard drive on my ipod went bad, so I bought a new one (hard drive). My question is now how do I get the ipod operating system back on the new blank hard drive so I can use it again? Can I download it somewhere and then drag it onto the ipod from my computer?

This looks like an Apple support question. If there is an Apple store, you may be able to get an appointment with one of their iPod gurus.

For on-line help, go to http://www.apple.com/support find iTunes/iPod, and put your question in a search box. on how to format a hard drive on an iPod.

Usually, when you plug in an iPod, there is a "reset option" If you can get that, go for it. It reformats the drive.
