Super califragalistic expialadocious at 34 letters long is not the longest compound word known to man, however. There is that Welsh place name, which weighs in at 58 letters long ... Llanfair pwllg wyngyll gogery chwyrnd robwllllant ysilio gogogoch, commonly known as Llanfair PG, is a village on the island of Anglesey in Wales, situated on the Menai Strait next to Menai Bridge and across the strait from Bangor. The long form of the name is the longest officially recognised place name in the United Kingdom and one of the longest in the world, being 58 letters in length. The name means: "St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave".

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

The song describes using the word as a miraculous way to talk oneself out of difficult situations, and even as a way to change one's mood. The song appears in the film's animated sequence where Mary Poppins is harangued by reporters after winning a horse race and responds to one claiming there are not words to describe her feelings of the moment. Mary disagrees with that and begins the song about one word she can use. Ever since the word is used as an adjective referring to "absolutely stunningly fantastic".

and to quote the movie "you know you can say it backwards, which is 'docious-ali-expi-istic-fragi*-cali-rupes', but that's going a bit too far, don't you think?"

* the L does not appear to be pronounced when the word is said "backwards" - and yes, I know it isn't exactly backwards, but you'll have to take up that matter with either Mary Poppins or Walt Disney.
