just got a new dell computer and cant figure out how to hook up the printer

The printer will have either a parallel port (a long thin connector) a USB port or a network port, or any combination of these 3. These days, most printers can work on USB, so if the printer did not come with a USB cable, you can pick one up from any electronics store for relatively cheap.

After you've physically connected the printer to your computer, you'll need drivers for it. If it did not come with a CD, go online to the website for the brand of printer, and download their drivers.

my printer and lap good have been connected. unplugged printer to go it once I plugged it back in they weren't connected. printer remains indexed as default printer. the print set up web page basically flashes on and rancid back

You may need to contact dell (IT FREE as long as you have a dell PC) they may have to do it for THE SOFTWARE MAY NOT WORK ON DELL they may have to walk you thorgh it 1-800.www.dell.
