The engine won't turn over? Push down on the kickstarter and it won't move? If so,

Did you leave the gas on? Petcock in the 'on' or 'reserve' position?

If so, it's possible fuel leaked through the carb and into the cylinder. This can cause the rings to rust and stick to the cylinder.

If the engine will actually kick over but won't start, then there's a bunch of things it could be, but start with the simple stuff.

Engines need 3 things to run. Fuel, air, and spark. Make sure it has all 3 of these.

You're headed the right direction with clean fuel.

Next, install a new spark plug (make sure it's the correct heat range and style for the engine).

Third, clean and oil the air filter.

If it still won't start, then check to see if you have spark.

If you've got spark, then re-install the plug, open the throttle a few times and kick it over again 3 times. Remove the plug and see if its wet. If not, then the fuel from the tank is not getting into the engine. You have a gummed up carburetor.

These are the basics - start here, if this doesn't get you running, then come back with more info about your results and we'll try more tests.

I cleaned my carb and everything and it still wouldnt crank up easily or run so when i took my spark plug out it had a little black on it and was dry. This means fuel was still not getting to it. Theres 2 screws holding a little cover down on the side of the carb and in that is a little rubber piece with brass in it. This is the fuel pump i think and this may not be working efficiently. Best thing to do is just by a new carb bc they are so cheap for these bikes, Or you can search around for a new rubber piece.

I have seen modified versions of trail bikes made so people can race and jump them successfully, but the trouble is by the time you spend all the money to upgrade the bike you have you may just as well have bought a bike designed for racing. You may even find a few of those trail bikes that were allowed to race were actually already modified. I used to get annoyed at one track my kids raced at that allowed trail bikes due to the fact that the people racing them had done so much work to them to make them suitable and you had new people watching them and then turning around and purchasing the same bike, only to hurt themselves as their bikes were standard. Fact is they are not made to race with and you could spend heaps trying to make it competitive but really it is probably just not worth it when ultimately your main aim is to eventually own a mx bike. Since you are only just starting out racing you could not expect to be at the pointy end of the pack anyway so why not start on the bike you have ( being very careful not to over jump and jump too large jumps on it) and that way you can get your foot in the door and a bit of experience. Then when you find your way you can hopefully save to get a mx bike. keep your eye out when at the track as many people upgrade during the year to another bike and you may pick up an mx bike cheaper. Just make sure you have it checked over to see that it is in good order before buying.

Can i have some help, the bike seems to be restricting as if its not fully opening up, someone told me the piston may be ruined so i started to take it apart. i have the rocker cover off and the bolts out of the head but it seems that the crank chain is stopping the head coming off to get to the piston. help?
