I consistantly worry because I think i'm stupid. My grades are a's and b's and i'm in very tough classes, but i tend to lose focus when i read, and i have problems concentrating. Also i don't always understand what everyone else does and I feel so stupid sometimes because i do badly on tests. It's not fair because i try so hard but my brain is not that good and does not process quickly. Is there anything i can do to become smarter? Why is one person born with a more gifted brain than another? it's not fair.

Its not that you are not smart, clearly your grades are telling you that you are, you are having problems concentrating and processing information, you drift off thinking about other things when you read instead of actually taking in the words you read. i have the same issue.

I am 26 and was diagnosed when i was younger with Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D) now i am not saying you may have it, and if you do its not a bad thing.

You should consult your doctor about your symptoms and ask for some help.

They often prescribe medication or they may tell you other things to do to improve your symptoms, but remember in now way are you stupid, you are very intelligent. Good luck.

By the way I am very intelligent i have a fantastic job and i am the person everyone comes to for things at work, as they say "i know everything" to do with our property company. Look forward to a rewarding life, if you have A.D.D or even A.D.H.D it will have no impact on what you want to be in the future.

You are not stupid; keep telling yourself that. If you constantly call yourself stupid then you will start to believe it and by doing that you limit your own capabilities and what you possibly can do. Obviously if you are getting A's and B's you are very intelligent and can do anything you want as long as you try your hardest and give your best. You are also not stupid because you fail tests. Some people are just not test takers. I know this because I also am a very good student and am number three in my class, but I also suck at some tests. You can't be good at everything. No one's brain is better than anyone else's. Those really smart people just put in a lot of effort and are very determined. You can be that too. Don't be so hard on yourself. Good Luck!!!

The reason you get A's and B's is because you have jumped through the hoops and know basically how to be a good student but you are not actually making any discoveries. This is not uncommon with our obsolete education system. You are not exercising the brain in any way that is highly motivating to you.

When you are older and have more control over your life, including what it is you learn, you will become an expert at something. Make sure that you do not let society, friends, or even parents pressure you into certain lines of work or college education. Discover something on your own that fascinates you and there are no limits, your brain will amaze you!

Hi, you AREN'T stupid, that is a lie from the devil, do NOT believe it.
If you are getting A's & B's in class, that rules out the word stupid.
Have you ever taken a test to see if you are dyslexic?
I am to a degree and although I get A's in classes, I always believe my answers are wrong.
Losing focus in anything might mean simply that you are bored or already know the material and your brain needs higher stimulation.
Take some online IQ tests and see how you do.
If there are any areas where your mind draws a blank, or sees things differently, then see if you can be tested for learning difficulties.
I think you are smart, bored, need stimulation and perhaps a new way to learn.
Good luck, do great things.

Poor dear. You shouldn't feel this way. You are very smart! If you manage to score A's and B's that means you're really smart. In your situation, the best thing to do would be to get help in all the courses you need help in. I can personally relate to the way you are presently feeling. I'm already finished high school, but I struggled more than you'll ever know. I used to cry every night, because I was failing really badly, and I needed passing grades to graduate. I used to ask God why he cursed me with the characteristic of not being able to understand assignments when other students could. It was horrible. But I recuperated! I got tutors, and support form my family and friends. Like you, I was an A student, but certain subjects would just wear me down! In the end I made it through. I am now 18 and in a great university! If I hadn't kept my head up, thought positively, and sought the help that was neccesary, then things would have been more disastrous than what they turned out to be. I suggest you to do the same. And remember, there are people out there who are much worse off than you. Just reading the question you wrote lets me know you're a very smart girl. But if you continue to think you're stupid, then things just won't work out for you. Good luck!

I think you are doing badly on tests because you have test
anxiety. It is like stage fright for an actor. You prepare for the
test and then just forget. Also, PLEASE KNOW that some
people that write the tests try to trick you on purpose to see
if you can out think them. Their attitude is that no one is perfect
and no one is going to get an "easy test". They make it hard on
purpose so there are lots of "C's". This way, they make you
keep trying harder..........Also..........

I have a Bachelor's degree and experience the exact same things you are !!! You are not alone. I am back in school right now trying to improve myself once again. I am 47. I am only going to night school part time. I think what you experience is normal. I think forgetting is a common human emotion just like
happiness or laughter. I think some people are just gifted in certain areas that others are not. I also believe that some people have fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, or next door neighbors that help them on homework or other study habits. For example, if your mother is an accountant, chances are you would be an accountant too one day. And, because of this, your mother would always be there to help you be a better accountant. Consequently, your grades in accounting would be better than most others. See how this works??? So, don't be hard on yourself. ............What I would do if I were you is take an APTITUDE TEST. (See a local career counselor or psychologist.)
This test will reveal if you are better in numbers or better in reading or better in fixing things or better on computers. Then, apply yourself in only those areas you are good at. If the
test reveals you are a good reader, you might make a good
magazine editor or journalist. Lawyers like to read, so you might
make a good lawyer................Hope this helps. Don't be so
hard on yourself. Take a break when you start to feel this way.
Also, talk to a teacher you like and trust. Schools have counselors. Also, try Barnes and Noble Bookstores or
Amazon.com on the internet. Ask about books that help you
study, Aptitude testing, or self improvement. At $19.95, this could be a good investment to help you along the way. ..........
Take care...............:)

It is not about someone else having a more "gifted brain" at all, at least that is what I think. I think that every human being is born with the basic comprehension of things, and as they go through life learning in school, or at home or just in life in general, they have knowledge in more specific areas compared to others. There is not a single person on this earth who truly knows everything, that is impossible. I don't always understand things either, it is more about keeping on and trying your best to get what you can out of the information at hand. You should not feel stupid at all. Take what you do know about life, and about certain subjects and use that information to your advantage, but never underestimate yourself.

First of all, the smartest thing you could do right now is to delete waxingthe's answer.
If you are making a's and b's you are far from stupid.
Many people who have higher-than-normal intellignece have trouble taking tests.
I would suggest you get see your school counselor and ask for someone to help you improve your test-taking skills. Even if your grades do not improve (how much higher can you go than an A after all?), you will be more relaxed when taking tests and will learn to evaluate your performance on many ohter levels than just grades.
A good counselor will also be able to help you improve your level of concentartion.
Everyone needs help in some area at one time or another.....you are NOT stupid....just very normal. :-)

I would go and discuss this with your school counselor. It sounds like you are really smart, you just may have a disorder that makes learning or test-taking difficult. There are a lot of programs out there specifically designed for people who just learn differently. You aren't stupid, you just think differently.

I was always great in Science, Math, Art, and Writing - but I HATED history and social studies, and I did poorly in those classes. That doesn't make me stupid, I just had to find other ways to get interested in those subjects.

Well I'm really smart but my life is screwed in other ways. I know that doesn't answer your question but maybe it will be some consolation.
You said you lose focus when you read. That's normal. You say your grades are As and Bs and you are in tough classes. Hmm...sounds pretty smart to me.
I don't know you but it sounds like you are being a bit hard on yourself. If it is really that rough try taking fewer classes and studying harder.
