What country and state are you in? I filed all of my own divorce paper work. I went to the local library, checked out do it yourself divorce books and copied the forms there. There is a form I filled out for indigencey (low income at the time) and the filing fee for the divorce was waived. Even if you cannot have the fee waved, it is only $100.00 in Michigan to file your own paperwork.

Call the Domestic Relations Clerk of Courts in your county they will be able to tell you what you need to do. Sometimes in some counties they only make you pay filing and service fees if you do all the paper work pro se. If not they maybe able to point you in the right direction.

i just had to do this my self.go to court house and get a divorce packet if you dont make any money then you get a fee waiver. then fill all the papers out as best you can , if you need help then the court house has a pro per clinic that can let you know if your doing it right . then go back and hand in the papers and they will tell to find someone to serve the papers to your spouse.

I thought that but if you have a reasonable job, a few savings and a house then you pay for it all yourself. I can't work out why I had to pay and others get legal aid but I suppose that is life.

You probrably didn't have a lot cash to get married, but you did it so find a way to afford your divorce.

Usually, if you do your own paperwork, money can be saved.

It depends on where you live and why you need a divorce.
Typically the same place where you register for food stamps, child care assistance, etc.
