My 11 yr old loves to draw and loves craft stuff. She loves to get those craft kits like the sand art, painting ceramic figures, knitting and sewing kits. The carry these at Walmart and Target. If she likes to draw, perhaps she would like to paint, get her a kit to paint with oils or watercolors.
At that age, they always love bath stuff. Put together a basket of bubble bath, bath oil beads, nice smelling bath gel, a pouf or loofah, and some body lotion. Then throw in some lip-smackers lip gloss and some nail polish.
My daughter really likes her betta fish. These are easy to care for and only take a small glass fish bowel. And they are very inexpensive, maybe she would like something like that? Buy her a fish bowel, some rocks, some food and a gift card to PetCo or PetSmart and let her pick out her own betta.

My goddaughter is likewise 12 yet she's a Twi-problematical so getting her Twilight appropriate presents is the order of the day. If she has a DS what about the hot Professor Layton sport (Professor Layton and the lost destiny) and there is also a dvd movie which has also those days been released (Professor Layton and the eternal Diva). also my goddaughter loves any dvds by Ghibli Studios. in case you have not come throughout the time of jap anime, those are ones like lively Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Ponyo among many others. As a very last hotel, there is continually Amazon vouchers! reliable luck!

Look at a bookstore for a book on how to draw manga. If she has something like that, you could buy her one of the seasons of Star Trek.

Go to an art store and buy her a tall travel easel and a beginner's drawing/painting set with case. She can take these outside and set up and commune with nature and draw/paint/sketch away.

Check your phone book or newspaper for information about local art associations (we have a Cultural Council here in my area). Someone at your school might also have good contact info. Maybe you can sign her up for an art class in the evenings.
