i was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. My very best friend of 10 years her brother hung himself. I didnt know what to do or what to say. I was there for her when she needed me i went with her to the funeral home to the funeral i just stood back and when she needed to cry i was there to lend my shoulder. I just told her no matter how she feels i will always be here for her that i couldnt imagine the pain that she was going through and i wished i could take it all away that we would go through it together. She told me just a few months ago how much she appreciated that i was there and even though i wasnt in her face telling her how sorry i was it helped to know i stood back and when she needed me i was there

It depends on the ages of those involved, and where the mother is being cared for.

Assuming you are all adults, and mom is at home, take over mom's care a couple times a week so your friend can get out of the house to run necessary errands, and even have a little time to herself.

Cook dinner for her now and then to give her time with her mom.

From time to time, stop by and pick up the laundry...all of it. Wash, dry and fold it, and take it back the next morning.

Help give mom her sponge baths.

Pick up medicines from the pharmacy, or other errands.

Get a group of friends together and clean up her garden.

Saying "be there for her" is meaningless unless its backed up by actions. Good luck.

She's gonna Need lots of moral support and understanding! Just treat her like you would want to be treated if you were in her shoes! She will also need some alone time too-but don't let her turn to depression-the death of a parent is very traumatic and takes lots of time to accept so your friend is going to go through lots of change...don't ever hold it against her....she got dealt a very unfair hand from life!!!God Bless-we all need more friends like you!

Just be with her whenever you can and let her talk about her mum however much she wants to. Just be her friend, if you know her well you will know how to help her. What you say and do is not as important as just being there with a shoulder for her to lean on and go with her to visit with her mum if she is in hospital whenever you can.

all you can do is be there for her, let her know that you care and that you're there for her... people handle stress and grief different so be understanding and willing to accept what she's going through. She may get withdrawn and need some time alone just let her know you're there when she needs you.

You wouldn't believe how much it would mean just being there for her, whenever she needs to talk or cry or sit quietly. And don't take it personally if she snaps at you, she doesn't mean it.

there is nothing you can say to her to make her feel better about her mom dieing but you can ALWAYS be there for her and let her know that and talk to her as much as you can and give her time alone if she wants it as well

If you can't think of anything you don't need to say it. But it is important for you to be there with her when she needs you.
