Tums are better as they do not have Magnesium hydroxide.
Calcium carbonate suppliments are generally cheaper, and the mind flavored ones have less additives.

The only thing my doctor okayed for heartburn was Regular strength Mylanta, or a big cup of milk. Now for me (and I hate milk) Milk worked to best and its good for you. I would hold my nose and down the stuff. The Myth is that if you get alot of heartburn your baby will have a full head of hair :). I used to get heartburn so bad that I had to sleep almost upright other wise I would choke on the acid. Both of my kids had alot of hair, with my second one I was able to put pig tails in her hair from the day she was born. Before anything call you OB and ask her.

I'm sure you could but you should take TUMS instead, because not only do they help with heartburn, but they provide calcium which is good for you during pregnancy. =)
