How can a man spend so much time sitting around doing nothing and sometimes catching nothing, only to claim he had a good time and is looking forward to going back to do the same again?
Then why waste your time claiming that fishing at sea is so heavenly?

Because when somebody is sat on a river bank in the warm sun, with the peace and solitude, the mind is emptied of all thoughts and the angler is lost in dreams with the worries of the world left behind. It does not matter whether a fish is caught or not, it is the supreme relaxation that puts all the ills of the world in the background and transends time and space. My age decreases by ten years everytime I fish.

It does not matter what anyone tells you about fishing, it's something you need to find out for yourself. To sit by a lake and chill out for the day, and when you hook that fish it's not just a question of pulling it to the back, it takes time, and you can have a fight on your hands. I felt much like you about 3 years ago, then i thought i would give it a go , and i haven't stopped since, I know those days sitting there for maybe 12 hours and catching nothing, but how often do you sit and do nothing, just listen to the wind, the birds, have you watched the rain fall, do nothing just relax, and hope that today may be the day you catch the big one, but if it's not well never mind.

The challenge...The magic of knowing you might catch something, or the big one! I think that part of it might be why people play the lottery? But i don't think the mentality is much connected, it's different.

If they're are other guys there, it's the definitely the bonding. They guy thing. Sharing the whole thing together, the adventure, hanging out, some guys remember that for the rest of they're lives.

Women fish too! They love it, too. And many of them bring in big ones.

The feeling of doing something primal, is something we have mostly lost. There is a real need for that in everybody's lives, I think.

If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time that I spend alone
Starin' at the cool and bright green water
It's a kind of a special feelin'
And it's there that I feel my best
Starin' at the full moon like a lover!

Fishing is a sport, like football, except that we get a good meal out of a good day. Salmon has beta nutrition which cannot be exceeded with watching football and eating all those snacks during break, quarters and half-time. Contrary to mythology, fishermen do not just sit aroung waiting for a fish to bite, but rather go to the channels, etc. and search them out. The "hunt" is really a practised art, some winning tournaments on fish catching.

Isn’t it unbelievable how many people reply questions without anything to reply, just for the two points. Myself inclusive. God, how boring life can be… Worst than fishing. By the way, what I hate about fishing is the way your hands smell after unhooking that small fish. So small that you let it go. So you remain with just the filthy smell.

give a man a fish and he has a meal. teach him how to fish and you can get him out of the house for a long time. I was informed fishing was invented by wives to get their husbands out of the house after they retired.

I don't have the vaguest idea why.
I've tried to understand this whole thing, but I just don't get it.

I guess some people like to waste their time in certain ways.
