Aaahh the eternal dilema! I searched for 4 winter seasons until I found my beloved boots.

I bought mine in Clarks where I found the key to getting a pair that fit is to buy a 1/2 size larger. The change in shoe size isn't enough to make them uncomfortable or difficult to walk in, but the assumption that bigger feet=bigger legs means that they fit beautifully around a larger calf. Clarks is the only high street store that I know of that sells half-sizes in women's shoes.

Alternatively if you are a bit richer you might consider getting a pair from Duo Boots online. They take your leg measurements and send you a pair guaranteed to fit. I have heard they are excellent but at £100-£150 or so for a pair they were a bit beyond my price range (I got my Clarks "Ionian" boots for a fab £45!).

Good luck, and don't give up! Knee highs look fabulous!

Hi, I have one calf bigger than the other due to a post partum DVT. Nothing on the high street fits. I recieve a catalogue called simply be for larger sizes. They do good fashion/leather boots at reasonable prices for wider legs. Try their website and have a look. www.simplybe.co.uk.

Hope this helps.

Ambrose Wilson or the Shoe Tailor both do lovely leather boots in 3 different calf sizes and at reasonable prices.

Evans and Simply Be are really good too.

Evans and clarks are great stores that supply shoes/boots - made - to - measure.

Well worth popping in and taking a look.

Try duoboots.com They do a variety of styles. All you do is measure your own calf size and then match it with calve sizes on offer. They have up to 21 calve sizes. Prices from £90-£160.

Evans is your best bet, but my friend bought some really nice ones last week in a Clarks for £69.99 and she has larger (but very nice) calves
