Why do so many people believe that their way is the only way? From Evangelicals telling me I'm going to Hell if I don't believe in their God or tithe their church, to the Drug Warrior morons (like this incomprehensible fool who dares call himself intelligent: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhKzjFVX5lHpI1kKe44kCMwjzKIX?qid=20060920014822AA5oz9U) who insist that a chemically pure lifestyle is so preferable that deviators get sent to our living hell, prison.
Take this analogy. People who use drugs are people who can see color, whereas abstainers are as the blind. Those with "sight"(drug experience) can only describe "colors" (drugs) to the "blind" (abstainers). In todays world, the blind are in power and have made it a crime to see colors.
This is exactly how the Drug War works.
America is a REPUBLIC to prevent the "tyranny of the majority", but the War on Drugs is a tyranny of the (small) majority.
So why do so many people think that if drugs were legal, society would..

fail immeasurably. The vast majority of drug users (Opiates, marijuana, cocaine) are indistiguishable from the rest of the population. When did this vice become a crime? Drug use hurts no one but the user, and the supposed "harm" is often misrepresented to serve political ends.

Why do so many people support this absurd policy?

Conservatives claim to work for smaller government, but expand the greatest government intrusion into private lives, the War on People (Drugs).

There is NO LOGICAL REASON TO KEEP DRUGS ILLEGAL!!!!

All of the "logic" you might want to rebut me with is not logic or reason, but neurotic emotional appeals. Protecting our Children is a silly screech by bad parents. It's YOUR JOB TO RAISE YOUR KIDS. Just because you don't want your kids to do drugs doesn't give you the right to oppose my right to Cognitive Liberty.

As they say, my right to swing my fist stops at your nose.

So why do you take away my RIGHT to drug use? It has caused no harm to you.

I'm personally from the church most often blamed for this kind of stereotype (Lds (Mormons) I agree with your view. I personally can't stand the pushy moral types, but they are an outspoken minority in a good organization. The reason they do this kind of thing is because their human nature, far from being Godly, begins to show and they try to place themselves above others, thinking it makes them more worthy than you and others. Organized religion is just as much a spiritual thing as a social practice, and by being extreme and hypocritical they feel like they are gaining acceptance. I also agree with your view on the government's limited thinking. Just look at alcohol! There is more death, murder, and damage caused by alcoholics who have it witheld from them untiul they're 21 and abuse it than people who use drugs. In Germany drinking is legal to all ages and they have the least amount of fatal DUIs and once again human nature steps in with drugs and people want things they can't have. I do however agree to a chemical free lifestyle, I like to feel in control of my life, but that's just my personal preference, not a religious hamperment.
