My daughter plays cello and would be helpful, but she is a newlywed and is very busy ;)
I live alone and have plenty of time to practice and am pretty motivated....love music and want to play my own. Where would I go to find a good teacher?

There is no reason why you couldn't learn. Now this won't happen overnight, but just be patient with yourself. The more your practice, the better you'll be. I would go online, or go to a music store to see if you can buy a cd or dvd that can teach you how to play. Also, you can talk to someone (like a band teacher) or someone in a city symphony (if you live in a large city that has a symphony) and hopefully they can point you in the right direction. I don't play violin, but I do play guitar.......best of luck to you.....have a good time.

Of course you can learn :) I just started playing the violin

what I did to begin was go thru the phone book and try to find a contact, and when that did not work, I contacted the university in our town and they hooked me up with one of their instructors. It costs less for me, too since i am alumni. It is great fun, and I always wanted to play since i could not in high school (our band was not big enough)

You could go back to trumpet and be half way there.

Call any university near you and ask for the music department. Ask for teaching assistants for violin.

Buy your instrument and at the music store ask for recommendations for music teachers.

Buy one or two beginning music books for violin and start sawing away.

Call music schools in your city, including the universities (music department) and ask where you can take violin lessons.
