I hope you can talk your sister out of buying your daughter a car or anything else. It is time to cut the cord, at least for a while. I know how hard it is for you, but this girl must face the consequences of her own actions. What didn't happen in the first 18 years is not going to happen overnight. All you can do at this point, Dad, is to stand back and let her fall. Let her know that your door is always open to her when she decides to act responsibly. Then stick to it. If she needs money, let her get a job. Don't support the lifestyle and bad choices by caving in. Stay strong, but remain loving. It is going to be a long, hard and very bumpy road for you and your wife, but there is no other choice. Don't worry about what people think. They will admire your strength and courage and they will have sympathy for your situation. Don't confront the guy. There just isn't anything good that will come from that and there could be a whole lot of bad. Family counseling may be a real help right now. Find out if you have a good source in your community to help you and your family deal with this child. You will also find that you are not alone.
