He didnt suck anything out, he put the stuff he sucked out of the mouse Percy killed, back into Percy. and it made him sick.
The purpose?--Karma? maybe. I think it was to represent that there are consequences with everything you do. Kill the nice mans rat=get something put back on you.

He wasn't sucking something from Percy he was putting it in...it was thr tumor from the wardends wife. He was punshing him for what he had done earlier at the excution of the inmate who had Mr Jangles (the mouse) now as for the other answers he helped Tom Hanks because he had such a bad urinary tract infection thats why he looked so bad everytime he went to the bathroom and thats why that day when he got home he wisked his wife to the bedroom because with the problem he had he was not able to make love to his wife...Movie is clear cut if you just watch...

SORRY, BUT I THINK YOU HAVE IT WONG. HE WAS PUTTING INTO PERCY THE BAD STUFF THAT HE TOOK OUT OF THE WARDEN'S WIFE, REMEMBER, HE WOULDN'T OR COULDN'T COUGH IT UP LIKE HE DID WHEN HE REVIVED THE MOUSE. THE PURPOSE WAS, SINCE JOHN COFFEY COULDN'T GET TO THE CHILD KILLER, PERCY COULD AND DID. IF HE HADN'T PLACE THE BAD STUFF INTO PERCY, NO-ONE WOULD HAVE PAID FOR KILLING THE 2 LITTLE GIRLS THAT JOHN COFFEY HAD BEEN FOUND GUILTY OF.
