Ask yourself: Do I really need Vista?
If you can't come up with some pretty compelling reasons, just stick with Windows XP.

Only if you enjoy abuse.
Here's a little trick many people don't know about dell.
Dell is considered a Royal OEM , that's why the Dell name is on your XP product key (on the side of your machine). Dell does not activate windows, they just use their royal oem install. That's why the product key on your machine does not match the one on install. Vista will be the same way. If you obtain a "dell" vista reinstallation DVD, you will be able to install it on your slightly older dell , and it will be already activated and legit....as long as your motherboard remains a "dell" motherboard.
That may save you a few hundred $$....if you can locate the DVD from a friend.

Well Vista doesn't come out till January 30, 2007. I would recommend a 512MB ram chip (vista would work like it should with 1GB ram). Processor wise- probably a newer Intel or AMD chip. And you need to have at least probably 4 or 5 gigs of hard drive space to install it. You should probably call Dell to get the full specs of what you need.

sure it is going to likely be really sluggish. The specs on your computing gadget are listed on the link lower than. clarification why it is going to likely be sluggish: unmarried center 2.4 Ghz processor Celeron D (Very previous) 256 mb of ram on a moptherboard with the flexibility for optimal 1gb of ram - Vista calls for a minimum of two gb of ram in case you dont pick lag - it truly is with a reliable processor. now to not indicate the tiny harddisk to position in vista and performance a fix partition would quite somewhat use all of it. In different words, you desire a sparkling computing gadget.
