Most of the weight you put on the last half of your pregnancy. The baby is less than a pound right now, and so is the placenta. Don't worry about it.

As long as the doctor can hear the baby's heartbeat you probably have nothing to worry about. Most of the weight that you will gain during pregnancy will be during your last trimester. Be thankful that your weight gain has been minimal so far, many women have already put on all the weight they should gain and then some! More than likely they are trying to wait until you are far enough along to detect the sex. If you are really worried you could go to a place that does ultrasounds for people. My husband and I were really anxious to find out the sex of our baby so we paid for an extra ultrasound that our insurance wouldn't cover (it was only $50). Keep in mind that they won't tell you if anything is wrong though.
Just because you haven't gained hardly any weight doesn't necessarily mean that your baby is unhealthy. I have heard of some women who have only gained 10lbs or so through the whole pregnancy and ended up having perfectly healthy babies! You might go to some websites such as babyzone.com or babycenter.com...they will tell you the same thing. Good luck!

I am also 19 weeks along. I have had four ultrasounds so far and am having a comprehensive one at 21 or 22 weeks.
Could you try switching doctors? Most doctors do a comprehensive u/s at 20 weeks or so to make sure there is nothing major wrong. Are you by chance on Medicaid and they don't authorize unecessary ultrasounds, or is it your insurance company saying they won't pay for an ultrasound unless there is something medically wrong?
If the problem is your insurance, could you afford to pay for it yourself? Just a thought.
By the way, gaining only 3 pounds so far isn't a problem and is NOT a sign gthat something is wrong. Some women actually LOSE weight early in the pregnancy due to morning sickness. The baby weighs only one pound total at the end of the 23 or 24th week, so please don't worry about your lack of weight gain so far.

It has been customary for doctors to order at least one ultrasound by now, but because of new findings that suggest the ultrasound waves may affect the baby (I don't remember exactly how - yahoo it) alot more are being cautious about it. Also, alot of insurance companies are cutting back on what they allow during the course of a normal pregnancy. If your doctor does not feel that you need an ultrasound then you probably don't need one. I am 17 weeks pregnant with my fifth child and 8 years ago with my first I had 2 ultrasounds by now. My doctor hasn't even suggested thinking about an ultrasound and when I asked her she told me there would be no ultrasound unless she suspected a problem. Gaining only three pounds at this point should not be an issue, especially if you had a bit of extra weight to begin with. I've actually lost about 10 lbs since the beginning of this pregnancy, but I could spare it and the baby seems fine with all tests coming back normal. as long as all of your tests are coming back normal there is no need to worry. If you are uncomfortable with the doctor himself and don't trust him then you should get another doctor. This is not the sort of thing you want someone you don't trust to help you with. I understand the frustration of not being able to see your baby and perhaps find out the sex, but the more forward thinking doctors follow the most recent recommendations. Try to console yourself with having an up to date doctor and look forward to seeing that baby in April. I would like to see mine too, but I'm in your boat - healthy pregnancy (thank god) - no sneak peek :) Also, you cannot get an ultrasound without a doctor's order, no matter how much money you have. It's like trying to go to the drugstore and order up a bottle of amoxicillan or something. No doctor order, no ultrasound.

Your doctor is being careful. Why are you in such a panic to have an ultrasound? If there isn't anything that indicates a problem, you really don't need one. Too many people want ultrasounds so they can see what their baby is going to be, and some insist on more than one, but they really aren't good for the baby, so if you don't need one, trust your doctor. On the other hand, you are the customer and if you really think you should have one your doctor should comply. I hope the rest of your pregnancy and delivery goes well.

Every woman is different they gain weight at different rates. Some don't gain weight til the last couple of weeks of pregnancy. If you are truely concerned find another doctor & get a second opinion. If that still doesn't work tell them you are bleeding they have to do one then to check on you but only use that in extreme circumstances. Take care you will be fine

First off congradulations! I know with my first baby I was paranoid about everything. You gain most of your weight at the end of your pregnancy. If you think about out it the first few months of pregnancy your baby is developing from a small cell so you wouldn't gain weight. When all the major organs in your baby have developed then your tiny child will begin to put on more weight. Once your little bean starts gaining, so will you and trust me you won't stop...lol. Although your worries are normal there is nothing for you to worry about. You'd be surprised to see an 8lb baby in the delivery room. Good luck and God Bless you and your beautiful baby.

Hmmm, I'd look into another doctor. Here in NY they give 20 week ultrasound, it called the 2nd trimester ultrasound check. This is when they measure the baby and check it's internal organs to make sure everything is on track. Look into it

if ur eating really healthy, then u might not gain alot of weight.. and u should ask if ur insurance covers it or not.. try another hospital, or maybe if u can afford it, get one of those 3d ultrasounds.. if u dont feel comfortable, i would say try another doctor..nothing wrong with getting a second opinion..
and make sure the doctors are on track with more of how much the BABY weighs, not u.
