my son drove his sisters scooter without insurance or licence he got fine and 6 points. As he had no licence when do the points start from is it when he gets licence or when he was in court? also how long do they stay on licence. I do not condone what he has done but he has started work got a baby and settled down wants to start afresh. Thanks for the help

points last for 4 years. Unfortunately you have to have a license for the points to expire. So 4 years from when he gets a license. Good luck getting insurance.

By the way, I'm in the same boat and am now 22 still can't drive.

Points on your licence start from the day the Court endorses it, or from the start date of your licence if that is later than the court date. They count for "totting up" for three years, and can be removed (for a fee) by sending the licence back to the DVLA four years or later after they were awarded.

Most points are on your license for 4 years, although the insurance companies take them into consideration for 5 years unfortunately.

There is a link, however on the DVLA website that you can check exactly how long the points will be on there for. It may differ, depending on which code they come under.

I can only assume that they will start to take effect from when he obtains his licence.
