because i always lose connection when the phone rings or is picked up. do i have have to put a filter on both my phone AND my router?

No, you put the filters on the phones, NOT on the DSL router or modem! If you put a filter on the DSL modem you won't get any connection at all.

It sounds like you have an unfiltered phone somewhere. Or maybe you have a large number of outlets in your home. Either will cause problems with your DSL connection. In that case, you might want to consider a "home run" connection to your DSL modem.

Open the telco interface box outside your home. Disconnect the wire that connects your house wiring to the phone network. Put a 2 outlet splitter in that jack. Connect a single filter to one side of the splitter. Connect the house wiring plug into the filter. Connect a dedicated run to the other jack in the splitter directly to your DSL modem. You will now have a fast and very stable connection.

i believe so. Because when I didn't have a filter the line was blurred and had this creaking sound. But when I put a filter on the phone, everything worked fine.

those filters are designed to maintain your voice from interfering with what the ADSL kit does on the telephone line and are continually related to the telephone or telephones, in no thank you to the ADSL kit.
