I applied for an engineering internship (paid) about a month ago. The deadline for applying was three weeks ago, and I haven't heard from them.... Is that normal, or did I just not get the job?

Sometimes those engineering firms can take a while (I used to work at one)...follow up with a letter or email in a week or two if you don't hear anything..

Good luck! Lynn

Just as it is polite for candidates to follow up with potential employers, potential employers should follow up with candidates. However, especially since the use of email and job sites for job application, a candidate contacting a potential employer is now sometimes considered rude, and sometimes the employer doesn't have the time/courtesy to reply to declined candidates.

I would suggest a follow up email or call inquiring politely about the status of the internship. Always make sure to be courteous as you will have gained a contact that might want to hire you later!

Well there is a chance that they are still trying to make the decision on who gets the job. It wouldn't hurt for you to call the person responsible for hiring and tell them that you just wanted to follow up on the status of your application. I am a human resources manager and I get calls like that alot. It sort of tells me that the applicant is sincere and very interested in the job. Ask about their deadline for filling the position. Good Luck to you.

Be patient. Sometimes things happen and they dont call for awhile and other times it does mean you dont have the job. BUT alot of times if you dont get the job some places but your application in files so if they need some one usually within the next few months then they'll call you.

Go ahead and give them a follow up call so they know you are still interested. They should be completing the interviews soon.

Don't count it out. I'd make a call and see what their time frame is for deciding.
