Because throughout history aristocratic women were dressed by servants, rather than dressing themselves. Since everyone back then was right-handed (lefties were considered evil), the fasteners were switched to make it easier. So basically it's an anachronism on women's clothing that has remained to this day.

Because, back in the olden days lots of ladies of stature(rich or royalty) had handmaiden that helped them dress and it was easier for the handmaidens to help them dress and button up clothing, as with a lady nowadays standing in front of a mirror to dress and check themselves out.....

Women say the same about men's clothing. So you can tell who is a girl or boy.

Men's clothing is designed to be put on and taken off by the person wearing it. Women's clothing is designed to be taken off and put on the woman by someone else.

I dunno baby clothes are the same way. I dressed my kid the wrong way for months.
