You know in this country, when you can help someone by anything and everything as small as placing coins in the red tin can for the Salvation Army to putting some change in the coin box at McDonald's to buying at a thrift store or donating to one there's absolutely no conscionable reason why one should not be able to help the poor. There are other ways to help the poor as opposed to merely spending money on them as well; like actually spending time with them, encouraging them, teaching them there's something better than what they've tried, or more creative ways to go about it or whatever. Too often one often assumes that there is no help, not realizing that they could go to school for little, if nothing, or other opportunities right in front of their eyes by which they could get by. Volunteer, do something; if none of us ever knew what it was truly like for someone in a situation different from ours, the world would continue to be a dense, ignorance, prideful place, at worst, a hostile environment at best. If you're asking the question, perhaps you could do a lot more to make a difference, I sure know that I could ...

Yes, it is good to help the poor. So many of us have so much, how can we not help in any way we can?

I lived in Sierra Leone for nearly 2 years. At the time, it was ranked as the poorest country in the world and ranked at the very bottom of the UN Human Development Index. We were there trying to help street children and other impoverished children, families, war-wounded, polio victims, war-related refugees, etc.

It strikes me how readily those of us in America will spend 10, 20, 50 dollars on frivolous items, like an expensive meal or a handbag, but won't give $5 to help bring clean water or food or educational supplies to Africa. In Sierra Leone, $5 goes a long way--it is more than a week's wages for the average family. (Average yearly income in SL, last time i checked was around $142).

Especially this holiday season, I hope many, many people will be encouraged to give to the less fortunate, rather than buying rather inconsequential gifts for people who are already well-fed.

Yes because if no one EVER helped them, they would have nothing to look forward to, so they
would just die of starvation. If you want, donate
some money to Feed the Children. The lowest
amount of money you can give is $7.00. When
you get a return letter, you will be thanked by
either Larry or Frances Jones. You may also
get a picture of a child. If you pay $20.00, you
can get CDs and stuff like that. I believe that
if we help people in need of anything today, it
would be a better world for almost everyone tomorrow! God bless ya!

of course!
but unfortunately, we all say that we should, but very few actually do!!
i think its very unfair that im typing on a computer right now because i was LUCKY enough to be born to rich parents (i earned nothing so far!!) and other ppl are working like crazy just to get a few bills to pay for some white bread for their kids!!!

what i also often do is feeling sorry for ppl who sleep on the streets when its reeeally cold and im lying in my bed wearing many many layers that i could afford and wearing two blankets! and the poor lie on the street with a layer or two and no blanket whatsoever..

I can't think anyone who can answer "no". If one of us right here isn't really poor, I strongly believe that it's very easy to be in such position in just one day. Our future is totally unexpected so we have to help as much as we can.

Of course it is. If you or someone you loved was poor, wouldn't you want someone to help?

Yes we need to help each other and stop stepping on one another. We are all in it together.

Yes, if we are helping them to help themselves and not spoonfeeding them.
