I'm trying to compile information for a persuasive speech about the discrimination in the work place of younger people. Most people believe that because I am young, I can get a job right off the bat, but I'm having a hard time finding a job than my 54-year-old mother. I was wondering if anyone had any resources for me to use for this project. I would appreciate prompt responses.

*I am already quite aware of the fact that my mother would be protected under this. I am 18 and have been trying to get a job since I was 16. Just because I'm not 40 or over doesn't mean I don't get discriminated against. Employers need to have more trust in my generation. They need to take a chance on the kid who isn't a slacker, who really is just trying to get a job to pay their OWN bills.

Age is a "protected class" within the law, but young people specifically are not. Your mother, at 54, is protected, but you are not. http://finduslaw.com/employment_discrimination/age

There is no law that protects you. The ADEA prohibits employment discrimination nationwide based on age with respect to employees 40 years of age or older. The ADEA also addresses the difficulty older workers face in obtaining new employment after being displaced from their jobs, arbitrary age limits. http://finduslaw.com/age_discrimination_in_employment_act_of_1967_adea_29_u_s_code_chapter_14

Its almost impossible to prove age discrimination re guarding young people. In California you cant even file a lawsuit for age discrimination unless you are over the age of 40.

I have felt age discrimination before, and been well qualified for a job that was listed as NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY but still turned me down because i was only 22. It was for a shuttle driving job. I had a perfect driving record never a ticket or accident since i obtained a license when I was 16, and I passed there little test of street directions etc.

The prospective employers excuse is always because you "don't have enough experience" They only say this because they are not allowed to say sorry we want someone older! There's was that my 7years of driving, with a clean record, wasn't good enough for them.

i'm able to permit you recognize my journey. I labored with an elderly lady doing documents get admission to. whilst the documents replaced into used, there have been errors everywhere because of the fact the female had used a capital letter o extremely of the type 0. She theory they have been the comparable on a typewriter, so as that they'd desire to be the comparable on a working laptop or computing gadget. mutually as i'm undecided if that replaced into because of age or basically her being dim, her previous journey easily harm her overall performance. additionally, often once I even have an older professor, they are not as sturdy because of the fact the greater youthful professors. The older ones are in many instances not as modern with the technical documents, and that they not often ever are as modern because of the fact the scholars concerning pcs. If I could attempt to decipher yet another FORTRAN software.... I had one professor who wasn't beneficial approximately email. on the different hand, my mothers and fathers these days switched jobs and that they confronted age-discrimination from the reality that they are greater possibly to retire basically before a youthful individual. besides the fact that, in my mothers and fathers' container, their previous journey greater desirable than made up for that danger. In different words, i think of it quite often relies upon on the sphere. There are exceptions to my generalizations, yet that's why one could attempt to weigh applicants on somebody point, and noticing the place somebody is of their life could of course be a piece.
