Grab one of your favorite books that has titled chapters. Then open to a random page and flip forward untill you find a chapter. Then use the title of that chapter as a basis for your story. I just finished a project like that. I used the chapter title "Four Skinny Trees" from the house on mango street and wrote a story based on the title. Or, get a book of poetry and open to a random page. the first line you see in the poem is what your topic is. These usually work for me. E-mail me if you get stuck again.

I agree with two other answers to find some inspiration and write about what you like or look in magazines/papers for inspiration. The first stories people often write are about something that has happened to them or someone they know. You could write about a current issue, the credit crunch, and how a family start to lose their wealth through job loss and investments. It could be emotional and dramatic with perhaps the perspective taken from a teenage persons view point.

Put yourself in someone else's shoes, and write a story about an issue that's important to you, from the opposite standpoint.

write about a pie's experience as it is being eaten through the course of Thanksgiving dinner. of course, it wouldn't feel any pain...it would be about the family, from the point of view of the pie.
