because it's convenient for doctors. i found it difficult when i had my first child to get them to even try any other alternatives. i wanted an IUD because of it not having side effects they basically refused even after it was found i had terrible side effects from the pill. i refused to take the pill because i was having three days between periods i was having to leave work because i was throwing up constantly and i was an emotional wreck. it was much worse than even being pregnant. i wound up pregnant before my first child was even a year old. after i had her i switched doctors (finally got a good one) and she agreed i should stay away from any form of hormonal birth control and now have an IUD. i absolutely love it. you don't have to think about it at all it's a lot cheaper in the long run than regular birth control and it's the most effective form of birth control other than abstinence. so for the most part doctors don't discuss anything that's an inconvenience to them. i had to do my own research.

Well, some women like to use it for the hormonal benefits ( the positive side effects). It reduces cramps and makes women more regular. Also, it can even help add curves - a positive side effect I experienced :o) I agree that there are some neg side effects but most women who experience those are not taking the right dosage for their bodies. Forgetting to take one will not leave you stranded unless that is one of the first you have taken. Once that stuff is in your system, it takes a while before you can become pregnant after you stop taking them. (Forgetting to take several may cause issues....not only possible pregnancy). As with all medicine, read the labels & warnings carefully and you should be fine.

1. It CAN have a lot of side effects. When I was on it, it had side effects, except they were: eliminated cramps, lighter flow, shorter flow, and no more PMS. Those sound like pretty nice side effects to me. It ALL depends on how your body interacts with that particular pill.

2. If you forget to take one, you are not completely buggered. If you forget to take two, you may be in trouble. If you are forgetting your pills, there are other good hormonal methods but people may be more hesitant. Taking a pill for most people is easy and non-invasive. The NuvaRing requires you to push something into and retrieve something from your vagina. The patch requires you to have it on you at all times and it can cause skin irritation. The Shot is very invasive, for obvious reasons. So, the pill seems easiest.

I use the NuvaRing because I have no trouble touching myself. I leave it in for 4 weeks and take it out for 7 days.

IUDs are the most invasive method, and frankly even that scares the crap outta me.

The only side effect i got was bigger boob's which was great, and when i started taking it, it was one of the only options for someone of 16, there was no such thing as the implant and there was no way a doctor was coming near me with a coil. I used condoms as well but just to be on the safe side took the pill as well

truthfully.. i hate condoms and the thought of having something in me ALL the time kinda freaks me out more then the side effects from the pill. i set my digital watch to go off the same time everyday and that keeps me from forgetting which i would while taking care of my 3 month old son. and i've never had any side effects with my birth control.

God knows. First I put on weight then I threw up. I was told I couldn't take a certain type because of the risk of thrombosis and another becase of the risk of heart attack (there's nothing wrong with my heart!) I tried IUD's and had to have that sugically removed,am allergic to condoms, so in the end did what all sensible girls do..... I got the husband to have the snip! Well I did drive him back from the hospital to make up for it!

I'd never go with the IUD too many stories of really heavy periods. the pill rocks because periods are super super light... like almost not there... no PMS... no cramps... no bloating.... its like not having to deal with any of that stuff. and seriously how hard is it to remember to take a pill... guess i have a really good memory. i did not gain and ounce and my blood pressure rises from dealing with morons in life not from the pill. i think the pill totally rocks. i know for a lot of people it has lots of problems but you have to find the right one for you. also the IUD has been connected to infertility in some cases... particularly in people that end up with an STD. it can make contracting an STD much more serious... and you never really know who your partner might sleep with. STD's can happen to anyone sexually active. also IUD's are known for causing more crampy and painful periods... no thank you. and depo... now that sounds like a disaster... diaphram... anyone ever try getting fitted for one of those...it sucks and they are huge and are known to cause UTI's and vaginal infections from the spermasid that goes with them. thats why so many women like the pill. there are too many problems with other methods and the pill when you find the right one makes life easier way easier.

Because it's cheaper and the side effects arent as bad as an IUD or a shot, like prolonged bleeding and such.

Women are more reliable! therefore the pill is more reliable! they will actually remember to take it and not lie about forgetting it for a variety of reasons ( unlike men and condoms!)
