they arent harmful unless you dont follow the directions. i've never had a problem myself. if you're afraid of them they have tampon alternatives, i dont recall the name but it was a rubber bell shaped thing that you put in your vagina and it collects the blood, and every now and then just like a tampon, you empty it and put it back in. there arent any side effects if left in too long, and its reusable. i think it only cost 20 dollars so you end up saving a bunch. so good luck. found the name of one brand the divacup... link below. costs 30 dollars, but consider how much you spend on tampons or pads.... worth the money
the keeper is the one i used to have. good luck

Tampons are potentially harmful if they are left in for a really long time. The boxes say 8+ hours is potentially harmful, although it is rare that it causes TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome). They do not hurt your vagina or sex organs in any way.

If They are left inside of a vagina for an extended period of time, there is a possibility of developing toxic-shock. That's why it's best to change tampons every 8 hours or so. For more information see the link below:

I only wear a tampon if I am swimming, just because they do have the potential to give you tss. However, if there is any way a pad can hurt you, I don't know how.

The blood is supposed to come out, not stay up in there w/ the help of a tampon. Yuckie.

Not if you follow the directions. If you leave them in for too long though, sometimes it causes complications... just read the package and it will tell you everything you need to know.

you mean "ARE". they're only bad if you forget to take it out after the 8-12 hours because you could get toxic shock syndrome.
