Why do people wait until Christmas time to be generous and feed the hungry and the poor? Why not do things like that all throughout the year? If I were needy, I would much rather have someone feed me in the middle of June because they want to than during December because they feel they have to because it's holiday season.

Thank You!!

Most people are too timid to say this, but it is the truth. I always think that - who the heck cares if they get to eat one day a year - OK, two, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I love the celebrities down there feeding homeless at the shelter in LA on Thanksgiving too.

On the other hand, there are alot of churches and organizations that do good work all year. The holidays REMIND us to be giving, so these organizations get more attention at that time.

And it's all done out of good will, even by the celebrities who I just poked fun at. The organizations get alot of donations of food and money, which they use all year, not just at holidays.

Thanks for pointing out to us all to remember charity year round.

And meanwhile happy holidays. (See you down at the shelter in June;) )

Most of the churches and organizations do feed the needy all year long. When the holidays role around though they need more help to make sure everyone can enjoy the holiday.Plus for some reason people seem more generous around the holidays.

I don't think for everyone that it is just because they feel they have to because it's the holidays. I think people just are in a more giving mood around that time. I'm not condoning it by any means, and I think we should do good for people all year round. But I think that is the reason why people tend to do more for the needy around the holidays. It's in their minds more, and they feel in the holiday spirit which makes them more generous and more aware that there are people who do not have as much as they do. What we need is the Christmas spirit all year round!

Because most of the public are more willing to help during the holidays. Its sad but true. Lots of places do it all year round but sadly they have a better response during the holiday time. They are they "holiday givers". They want to do something nice but only really think about it during the holidays. They dont think that they have time during the rest of the year but make time during special times.

most organizations do feed the homeless, and underprivileged ALL YEAR, but there are more people taking advantage of the meals at the holidays and by then the organizations pantries are getting pretty empty....most people feel more charitable during the holidays so the churches and other groups ask for help then.

It's not only during the Holidays, but you hear more about it during the Holidays because people are in the giving mood more so this time of year. Stores allow people to stand out front and ring bells and put flyer's up.... they don't allow this during other times of the year.

There are places that do that all year round. You may just hear of them more during the holidays because there ARE more of them during the holidays.

Most organized churches,& `organizations', have very scheduled yearly (often projected up to 5 years or more), activities to raise money: gather, process, catalogue, and even pre-package goods for the needs of hungry and homeless, in-country or foreign. Emergency packs are assembled, gathered clothing, blankets, etc, washed, sorted, repaired. Personal hygiene packs are put together also and stored.
