Basically, you've got a number of chat channels. Everything will start by hitting the enter key, which will give you a spot to start typing. Then, you can use these commands:

/chatlist - displays the channels you're in
/leave (name) - leaves the (name) channel
/join (name) - joins the (name) channel
/# (text) - Sends (text) to channel (#)
/w (person) (text) - Sends a private whisper to a person
/r (text) - Replies to a private whisper

So, if you wanted to say hello on the general channel (channel #1), you'd type:

/1 Hi!

After you've typed "/1 ", it should switch from displaying "Say:" at the beginning of the line to "[1 - General]:".
