What type of degree is required to become an Activities Director or Events Planner in a retirement home setting? I am getting my BS in Business with a Certificate in Gerontology (study of aging). Do you think that degree will work for that type of job? What other jobs in this field would be available to me with that degree?

I think your degree will be perfect for that job. You'll have experience in both areas (the people and the planning). I am not sure what degree is required, if any. But, I do know that in the inpatient physical therapy section at the hospital I worked at, there was an activities director...I thnk she did not have a degree, but a lof of experience. I am sure you would make more money with a degree.

Where I'm from (small town in Northern California, USA) you would be way over qualified for that job.

Call the care homes or visit some and ask what the qualifications are for different positions.

It probably depends a lot on the local laws and funding and, of course, the number of potential candidates for the job.
