No, it's an LED. Some mice have lasers (Logitech MX1000) but you can't see the beam. Put down your mouse.

It depends on the type of mouse, if it is an optical mouse, which many are, it is simply a red light, although looking at any bright light for a period of time is bad. However, some newer mice (last year or so) are laser mice, and have a red laser. In this case it can harm your eyes.

If the mouse's light spreads out widely when held 2-4 inches from a table, it is optical. If it remains tightly focused, it is a laser mouse.

No, it's not a laser and it can't do major permanent damage to your eyes, but it's not a good idea to look in any bright light for a long time.

If it was a laser it would have the mandatory warning sign on it (like you have on the back of your CD player etc.)

By pointing the light at the wall and seeing that it diffuses readily I would say it is safe to say that it is not a laser.

Yes, it is a laser, however it is refracted numerous times to provide information to relay for the cursor. So it is not direct laser, but i still would not recommend staring into it.

No, i think it's just infrared that reflects off the table surface to determine the position of your mouse.

I doubt it...but the real question is, Why were you staring at it in the first place?
