What exactly do you mean by good?
Handling? Power? Maintenance?

The myth that the Harley's are investments is bogus. They don't go up in value. The only vehicles that go up in value are classics. Everything else goes down.
Harley's might hold their value longer than other bikes because they are not overproduced and there's a waiting list from the factory. But that is starting to change. It's becoming easier to buy a Harley off the floor.

Very few cars and bikes made today will become classics.

If you want a Harley, get it because you like it, not because you think it's an investment.

I rode my friend's Road King and I hated it. It didn't have a fairing and it had beachcomber handlebars which threw the physics of the handling way off. I'd like to ride one with normal handle bars so I have a better assessment of how it handles.
It was a 94, but Harley's don't change much so I'm sure it is close to the newer ones.
Aside from the handling, here's what I found.
It was extremely difficult to shift. I had to put way too much pressure on the shifter to get it to move. This is fine for highway riding, but if you ride in traffic or on windy roads, this would get old after about 10 minutes.

It felt like a bigger bike than what it was. It didn't seem like it was balanced well and every turn was uneasy.

The brakes were less than I'd hoped. Stopping was not very comforting if you had to do it quickly.

It was comfortable. If that bike had a fairing, then it would be a fairly comfortable ride on long trips.

It had plenty of power. I didn't have any problems with torque in any gear.

It sounded good and is a good looking bike.

All in all, I wouldn't buy one because I like performance. There are plenty of cruisers that handle well and I wouldn't say the Road King is one of them.
If you get that bike, it's for prestige and to get looks. There's no other reason. It's a cool looking bike, but past that, it's a dog.

If you're looking for the flagship touring bikes, I'd look around and read a few articles in Motorcyclist about them before making a decision.
The last I checked, the Honda Gold Wing is still the king of the cruisers according to them.

I rode my friend's V-Rod and that bike was awesome. It was balanced great, had awesome power and handled great for its size.
I'm not biased against harley's, but I just don't think you get what you pay for with them.
But that's only my opinion.

If you want a bike that is already chomed out and nothing left to add to then yes. But if you want to add your own style to your bike then get a regulat Harley...not a Screamin Eagle edition. I personally like a stock bike that I can slowly add part that I might buy later.

Take your bike to the dealership and say "I want loud pipes that won't void my warrenty." They will take care of the rest. For the moron who thinks Hondas are 5 times better than Harleys....is that why Hondas lose half their value after the first year and you can sell a 10 year old Harley for the same price you bought it for? Not to mention Honda cruisers are WAY underpowered, are cheaper feeling bikes, and they don't sound much like anything...especially an F-1 car. And lastly, Formula One cars sound annoying. I can appreciate what they are, but I would not want that sound following me everywhere I went.

If you buy a Harley you will not be buying a bike, you will be buying a fashion accessory. Get a proper bike, you know, one that goes round corners, accelerates better than a horse with three legs, is more reliable than a politician's promise and does not come with an accessories book bigger than a telephone directory.
