Just answered it in your other post, but perhaps this: Oxidation-reduction is a chemical reaction in which an atom or ion loses electrons to another atom or ion.

An ion is effective whilst it loses electrons because of the fact in dropping the electrons, the atom has extra protons than electrons, meaning there's a internet effective value. the alternative is real whilst an atom effective factors electrons. on account that electrons are damaging, an atom that effective factors electrons has a internet damaging value.

i'm pretty sure that an ion can lose all of its electrons because if an element in family 1 bonds with an element in family 17 then the element in family 1 loses its one electron but i don't know what it is called.

Sure. A hydrogen ion is a simple lowly proton... You would still call it an ion, but it will be for other elements just the atom's nucleus.

If an atom loses all its electrons (it can be done) then all you've got left is the nucleus.
