i know it's a pretty vague question but the singer sounded like Robert Smith but i know that the guy from VHS or Beta can sound like him too. any help would be sweet.

I bet you're thinking of "The Walk" from the 1980 album "Japanese Whispers." The lyric is "... I saw you look like a Japanese baby ..." Robert Smith is a kook but you gotta love him for it. Hope this helps!
