That ice is less dense than water, and most of an ice berg is under water, so if they melt, that means the ocean level will shrink. Is it just me, or does this make global warming seem funny?

so, pip, since there supposedly a water shortage, and since glaciers are melting, shouldn't we harvest that water? I mean, there supposedly is a water shortage, right?

actually that's not correct.. because it is at a stasis (not all of it is under water) the melting of an iceberg would have 0 effect on ocean level, positive or negative.. it's the glaciers melting that are over land like at Antarctica that would cause the change, and they would drown most of the coastal US.

hah, i wasn't trying to make a political statement about it... in all honesty my personal belief is that the natural cycle is much stronger than anything we can do and would find a way to balance itself out... but sure, if you wanted to harvest some water send someone to chip away at a glacier.. it's all the fresh water anyone would need for hundreds of years lol.. of course there would be pro's and con's for that.. but that's for the philosophers to debate. I don't mind my hill top becoming beachfront.. but a few billion people might disagree with me.

The problem isn't ice bergs, but the ice on land. If the glaciers melt in Greenland and if the ice shelf melts on Antarctica then the global water level will rise.

The only scientists who say Global Warming is a myth are those paid by the oil industry. In the scientific community THERE IS NO DEBATE. It is a fake controversy.

It's not ironic. Icebergs are just that big. I don't know where you're doing the math that oceans will shrink if they melt. How that would make glbal warming seem funny is beyond me as well. Are you seriously asking a question?

Hey Genius, Icebergs make up a minuscule amount of the ice in the world.

The Ice Sheets of Antarctica are on top of land masses.

The Ice Sheets of the North Pole rest on top of the water, because they are Ice Sheets and not Ice Bergs.

So, yes, it is just you that thinks that makes global warming funny.

Hey "Genius", the displacement that will occurr is that ice now on land which will melt and roll off into oceans creating more ocean water. I find some irony in your screen name.

Man, you're getting fourth-grade science wrong in your question! How sad.

Melting ice that's floating has no effect on water level. Gore says exactly this in his movie, in fact. However, ice that's on land (Greenland, Antarctica) - that's a very big deal.

Global Warming---THE HOAX OF THE CENTURY.
Even the Environmentalists don't really worry about Global Warming.
It is just to raise money. MONEY & POWER.
The Rain Forrest is for sale. The Serria Club and others have hundreds of millions of dollars socked away.
IF they really believed in Global Warming, they would be buying up the Rain Forrest to keep it from being cut down.
They are phonies.
