how come people are mean for no reason?

When you say, "mean for no reason," I assume you mean without provocation from their victims. I think the bottom line is because they never learned to respect other people. Beyond that, there are countless specific reasons. Some could have a mental illness, others may have been taught to be cruel, either by example or through a cult or religion (Hitler, Pol Pot, Torquemada), and even others could do it out of fear, thinking that if they victimize, they won't be victimized themselves. But as I said, the bottom line is that they never learned the golden rule, which is to treat others as you wish to be treated. People are naturally selfish and have to be shown early in life the value of empathy and compassion. And if you don't know that, you haven't spent much time around babies. :)

well some people do it because they themselves have had a shitty day and could care less if they make yours any worse.
some people just grew up like that. for example -- bad familys, poor familys, a boyfriend or girlfriend that treated them like total crap or they could have been brought up being beat or in a racist-type family. you know?
some people find your humility hilarious. they are just cruel but you don't have to worry because in the end they are forgiven but you're the one that comes out on top. people dont wanna be around a rude rather than be around someone nice. theyre most likely to succeed also. and thats true if you think about it enough.

Because they Can be. As anyone can be. Most decent people do not choose to be like that. Do not enable mean cruel people. My theory is stay the heck away from them. If you can not do so......... Put them in their place. Most mean cruel people can dish it out but can not take it. So if you have to give it back at least 10 x's worse!!!!!!!!

Because they do not accept that people or life is not, and can't, be the way they want to satisfy their needs, goals, etc. in order to become or to feel happiness. Therefore, they feel frustrated and since they can't reach happiness they can't accept happiness in others. They are not, and can't be happy and become cruel and mean with others, anyone.

Some people are nice for no reason and some people are jerks the jerk part of the population has been on the rise. While the nice people are not declining some of them are occasionally converted.

There's a saying that goes "You cannot give away what you do not have." Perhaps, these people have been deprived of kindness and therefore cannot give kindness to others.

Because I believe that some are so miserable in their own lives that they don't wan't anyone to be happy. Either that or they just don't have a heart

no one is mean for no reason, maybe they are having a bad day or they just don't feel good about theirself and put others down to feel better

What makes you think it's for 'no reason'? Perhaps they have a reason THEY think is good, and you simply don't know what it is.
