The best place I found in terms of cost of living is Hot Springs, Arkansas. It was named as one of the best small arts towns in America and has very inexpensive housing. And the scenery is great- lots of trees and lakes plus a temperate climate. I also think Asheville, NC is another good place to consider for the same reasons;

The best place to live is close to the people and places you care most about. Once you are there, then worry about finding something you can afford. There are lots of possibilities to live cheaper no matter where you go.
Tip: Stay out of debt! It will allow you much more freedom in choosing where and how you live.

The best place to live is where you are most comfertable and happy. In tearms of money; typically the north-eastern part of the United States is more expensive. California and Hawaii are also expenisve. More affordable states are southern and mid-western states
Here is a good tool to compare costs of living: http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html

Depends on your wages and debt to income and social life etc. Where do you live now and are you willing to relocate? I live on Southern California and love it, but it is expensive and I commute an hour to work so I can afford my "life style". There is a lot to figure out. Good luck.
