This worked for me

1. Skim through each chapter to find out what the material is about

2. Read the material - make a note of all main ideas in your notebook.

3. Copy and define any term or word that is new to you on a 3x5 card.

4. Use your notebook to record anything the instructor adds in class.

5. After the chapter has been completed study only from your notebook and cards.

6. Study for a preplanned period 6 days out of the week.

7. You should plan on a minimum of 3 hours of study for each hour in class

Depends on the classes you're taking. I make outlines from the book, or lots of books have a notes section. I just look at that, I rarley read the book. Also, I've heard reading outloud helps. Something that helped me retaining info was getting lots of sleep. Good luck!

Rewrite your notes and outline the text. Writing the material down helps incredibly in remembering it.

Make up test for yourself - hard ones!!!

Get another classmate to ask you questions orally from notes and the text.
